Introduction In short, this book is written in an attempt to focus on two issues. First, how and why, over one crore Hindus, who are called ‘Bengalis’ in West Bengal, took their buses from East Bengal (i.e. former East Pakistan, now Bangladesh), left the land of fourteen men and moved to India. And secondly, the history of how or why they were overthrown has been concealed in such a way that it would have been completely covered up in a few days - unless some effort had been made, including this book. It is to be noted that a handful of Buddhists and Christians have been caught here along with Hindus. In other words, it is basically a book about history and history is a mischievous attempt by Lukona, not about politics. Therefore, there is no conflict between my current responsibility and the writing of this book. The first English edition of the book was published in 2000. Before that I worked on this issue for five-six years. This book, titled My People, Uprooted, was well received. The next edition was published under a different name, A Suppressed Chapter in History, due to some publishing problems. The latest English version, My People, Uprooted, was republished in 2014. References to this book are published essays and interviews with victims. Many of the people who have witnessed these events, especially the genocide of 1950, have passed away since the first edition was published. Yet those who are and those whose memories are intact. If they send me any information or details about this incident, or any inaccurate information in this book, I will be eternally grateful. It is essential that the name of the person who is reporting is the current address and the address of residence in East Pakistan / Bangladesh but if he is reluctant to disclose it will not be disclosed.
